Offa chairman Sultan Choudhury OBE has been in Dubai this week speaking about Islamic finance as part of the #PathToCOP28 Sustainable Finance Summit. With his Islamic Finance Council UK (UKIFC) hat on, Sultan presented the findings of the UKIFC Global Islamic Finance Retail Banking Survey, which polled nearly 2,000 customers.

A whopping 90% of them want banking products that align with their ethics & values. Nearly three quarters of those polled want sustainability as part of the product offering, with 87% prepared to pay a premium for this.

As well as stimulating lots of good discussion at the Dubai Summit, these survey findings underline the importance of, and demand for alternative ethical finance providers like Offa.

Sharia and sustainability go hand-in-hand, which means firms like Offa can spearhead positive change in our sector.

As Sultan states, the UKIFC survey results should encourage more financial institutions to incorporate sustainability goals into their business & for their boards to pro-actively drive this activity knowing that “this is very much what their customers want & the direction that society is heading.”
