We were delighted to be in the Palace of Westminster last month for the launch of the British Muslim Civil Society Report, which documents the growth and achievements of British Muslims through their dynamic civil society, as well as the obstacles they face.

The event brought together MPs, peers, and civil society representatives, such as faith groups and business leaders, to hear about the findings and recommendations contained in the report, which was prepared by community development organisation Mercy Mission UK.

Offa’s Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Sagheer Malik, who is a Special Adviser to Mercy Mission UK, and Chairman Sultan Choudhury OBE, were present to hear those behind the research present their findings. There was also great contributions from esteemed guests such as Mercy Mission UK CEO Azim Kidwai, Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, Lord Syed Kamall, Afzal Khan CBE MP and Naz Shah MP, and young British Muslim community activists such as Ayesha Karim, who all endorsed the findings.

Reflecting on the event and report, Sultan Choudhury OBE said: “The launch of British Muslim Civil Society Report was a fantastic event and we applaud everyone involved in producing this important report. Its findings were both uplifting and thought-provoking, stimulating conversations that have continued long after the event on 16 Jan.

“For Muslim-owned businesses like Offa, it’s vital we continue to mentor and support those in civil society who are seeking to create a positive difference. We also need to help build bridges with mainstream Britain and foster better working relationships to tackle common issues, which in turn will create a more harmonious and prosperous society for all.”
